Harman Construction Supports Special Olympics

ESOP Event Benefits Special Olympics

At Harman Construction, we greatly value the input of our employees. As an ESOP company, we have the privilege of deciding which fundraisers to undertake, allowing us to support causes close to our hearts. It was the perfect moment to introduce the entire team to the remarkable work of the Special Olympics, spearheaded by David Hull.

David has been with Harman Construction for eight years and operates our cranes with expertise. Recently, he recommended a remarkable initiative that would touch the lives of many: organizing a solid auction to benefit the Special Olympics. This cause holds a deep personal significance for David, as he is the proud father of a child with special needs and has been actively involved in the Special Olympics since 1999.

To create awareness and help bring the mission of Special Olympics to life, several HCI employees donated handcrafted items to be auctioned off. One of our superintendents crafted a six-foot screen that folds in the middle, resembling bifold doors, on which you can display pictures. Another of our superintendents donated a hand forged knife with our Harman “H” logo embedded into the handle. Dave, himself, made a few clocks which depicted images of some of the buildings Dave had personal involvement in building, like the Sipe Center and Horizons Edge. In total, we gathered an impressive collection of 30 items for the auction.

The overwhelming support we received leading up to the auction was nothing short of extraordinary. The buzz within our company was palpable for months, as enthusiasm and anticipation grew. Thanks to the collective efforts of our team, we managed to raise an astonishing $3,650. This substantial sum will directly benefit the local Special Olympics, enabling them to organize trips and participate in the upcoming Summer Games this June.

The spirit of joy and love that radiates from Special Olympics events is truly unparalleled. Every parent desires the best for their child, and the Special Olympics delivers just that. From Friday evening swimming sessions to Saturday softball tournaments, they offer a diverse range of activities. They boast swimming teams, basketball teams, volleyball teams, and even a track and field program. David, for instance, has been involved for numerous years as a coach and chaperone for the softball skills team.
