Harman Construction Inc. has been chosen to oversee the extensive renovation of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Staunton, VA. Covering approximately 6,000 square feet, the project will revitalize the sacristy, chapel, and the sanctuary, with a particular focus on the sanctuary. The sanctuary's restoration includes refinishing original 1895 pews, installing new flooring over the existing surface, relocating lighting to its original 1895 positions within the plaster ceiling structure, ornate ceiling painting, and modifying the marble altar to its original design. In addition, the non-functioning organ in the balcony at the back of the sanctuary will be removed to accommodate the choir, while retaining the ornate organ pipes in a more fitting location.
This historic renovation project is driven by a commitment to restoring the church to its 1895 appearance. By leveraging historic tax credits, the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish ensures that this work honors its rich history and preserves the essence of the church for future generations.
