Rockingham County Emergency Station No. 10 Is Under way

The construction of the new Rockingham County Emergency Station No. 10 will serve to enhance the capabilities of our first responders and prove to be a crucial resource for our community. Harman Construction, Inc. is honored to be partnered with Rockingham County on this project. Harman Construction, Inc. is providing Design­-Build services to construct a 13,365 sq/ft, Butler pre-engineered metal building.

This extensive construction project involves erecting a brand new metal frame structure that will have the main building and an attached emergency apparatus bay. The main building will satisfy an assortment of staff needs ranging from office space to bunk areas. The attached truck bay will have the space necessary for six large rescue vehicles.  Victor Martinez, our Steel Crew Superintendent, emphasized the importance of making sure steel setting is precise, “I’ve always been told that if you want to do something, just do it right the first time. Everything has to be perfect and done correctly to keep the project going on schedule.”

Main Building

The features of this project in the main part of the building include a Gear Room, a training room, Kitchen, Dining Room, and Lounge area, a large Fitness Room, 8 Bunk Rooms, and 4 Offices. At the beginning of this process, we laid out all of the walls, roof panels, siding, and metal stud framing and then tackled each portion individually. One of the main challenges we faced during this project was supply chain issues, which meant delivery times on various materials were more delayed. To accommodate, we utilized the Rockingham County storage building, which we previously built, to store all of our metal studs, drywall, and acoustical ceiling materials.

Attached Truck Bay

The second area of this project is the attached Apparatus Bay which is 20ft in height to the eaves and has 3 drive-through bays with large 14ft x 14ft Overhead Doors on each side. Each Apparatus Bay has sloped floors to allow for any water that may run off the emergency vehicles to run down into trench drains to prevent water from puddling on the floor.

Having this station on the North end of Harrisonburg will create a ripple effect in the surrounding areas. By reducing response times, emergency services will be better able to serve the growing community. We are projected to have this building complete before the end of the year. It’s always an honor to know we are building something that helps our community.
