Breaking Ground for the Harrisonburg Fire Department

A NEW ERA OF PUBLIC SAFETY

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Station 5 fire station in Harrisonburg, Virginia, marks a significant milestone in the city’s history. This project has been in the works for decades, and its completion will greatly enhance the Harrisonburg Fire Department’s ability to serve the community for generations to come.

DECADES IN THE MAKING

The project is not just about constructing a building; it’s about fulfilling a vision that has been in the making for over 40 years. Harrisonburg acquired the land for Station 5 in 1983 with the foresight that the Park View section of the city would eventually need a fire station.

SUPPORTING EMERGENCY SERVICES

Harrisonburg currently operates four fire stations, strategically located to provide optimal coverage across the city. These stations respond to thousands of emergency calls each year, ranging from fire incidents to medical emergencies. The addition of Station 5 will significantly improve response times, particularly in the Park View area, which has seen substantial growth over the past few decades.

FOR THE NEXT GENERATIONS

Chief Tobia of the Harrisonburg Fire Department highlighted the long-term impact of Station 5, noting that it is “the most consequential project in the 50-year history of the Harrisonburg Fire Department.” This station is not just a response to current needs but a proactive investment in the community’s future, ensuring that fire services can meet the demands of a growing population for the next century.

TEAMWORK THAT TAKES ACTION

The collaboration on this project extends beyond Harman Construction. The team includes Mather Architects, Monteverde Engineering, and MEI, all of whom are deeply committed to bringing this vision to life. The partnership between these organizations and the Harrisonburg Fire Department underscores the shared dedication to enhancing public safety and community well-being.

READY TO GET TO WORK

Being involved in this transformative project fills us with pride. As Ryan Strite, Director of Business Development at Harman, expressed during the ceremony, “We are excited for you guys and appreciate all you do in our community," and with the ceremonial shovels in the ground, the team is eager to bring Station 5 to fruition.
