Historical Renovation Underway in Staunton

Preserving History at St. Francis

Harman Construction Inc. is excited to share our involvement in a significant project that honors the rich history of Staunton, Virginia. We have been entrusted to oversee a negotiated work endeavor, a comprehensive historic renovation encompassing approximately 6,000 square feet within the sacred grounds of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish. This project reflects a deep commitment to preserving the church's heritage, a testament to the congregation's reverence for its spiritual roots.

Our restoration efforts are focused on key areas of the church, ensuring the preservation and restoration of the parish's historical charm. The areas under renovation include the sacristy, chapel, and the sanctuary, which serve as the heart of the church.

Sanctuary Renovation

  • The sanctuary, the central space for congregational worship, will undergo a meticulous transformation.

  • The pews, originally installed in 1895, will be carefully removed and refinished to restore their original grandeur.

  • New flooring will be laid, overlaying the existing floor to maintain historical integrity while improving functionality.

  • Historic lighting will be relocated to its original 1895 positions, enhancing the space's authenticity.

  • The ornate plaster ceiling structure will be meticulously restored and adorned with intricate paintings, reflecting the church's rich history.

  • The marble altar, a symbol of spiritual significance, will be modified to recapture its original design, taking the church back in time to its origins.

  • The non-functioning organ, currently located in the balcony at the rear of the sanctuary, will be removed to make space for the choir's participation in worship.

  • The ornate organ pipes will be carefully preserved and relocated slightly further back, ensuring the aesthetics remain a tribute to the church's heritage.

Historic Preservation and Tax Credits

Given the profound historical significance of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, this renovation project aligns with the church's commitment to honor its roots. As part of this commitment, the parish is actively leveraging historic tax credits, enabling us to meticulously restore the church to its original 1895 splendor. This initiative is a testament to the congregation's dedication to preserving the church's cultural and architectural heritage, ensuring that future generations can continue to worship within the walls of this historical sanctuary.

At Harman Construction Inc., we are honored to undertake this project, knowing that our work will not only restore a beloved place of worship but also contribute to the preservation of Staunton's history and heritage. We look forward to collaborating with the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish to ensure the successful restoration of this treasured historic gem.
